While I was in Peru, my wife sent me this picture of her modeling for photographer Shirin Tinati. The photographs will be featured in the upcoming “I am Warrior” book.
Between my trip to Mexico and the next one to Peru and Colombia, I spent a weekend in New York, and took the opportunity to go with my wife and her ex-husband to see “Kontakthof” by Pina Bausch dance company at the Howard Gilman Opera House Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).
Before the show we went to a South African restaurant in Brooklyn called Madiba. Interesting mix of flavors and decor, great seafood imported directly from Mozambique, rustic atmosphere and somewhat “hipster” but not too much despite being in Brooklyn.
Three weeks ago I enjoyed a nice week at home in New York. My in-laws came to visit from Canada, and my wife took the opportunity to try new recipes using some very fresh ingredients bought in the weekend-only Farmer`s Market just around the corner, on 23rd st in Chelsea. Despite being small, they seem to carry everything, even “tea champagne” (fermented kombucha with ginger).
From polenta with swiss chards and mushrooms, to homemade apple pie (New Yorkers know their apples: whenever you can, try the “honey crisp”, you wont regret it), its a real pleasure to enjoy such delicious and healthy dishes.
Last Thursday I met with executives from Dell in the Dell Solution Center in New York to explore potential collaborations between my company and Dell.
Funny how large companies have adopted this system of offices / “solution” centers to make presentations to clients spread across major cities in the world. With telecommuting gaining ground but face to face still being something fundamental in business, it makes much more sense than it seems.
Last Wednesday I was invited to attend a reception honoring the new Chairman of the Spain – U.S. Chamber of Commerce, retired Ambassador Alan D. Solomon, at Hunton & Williams.
Located at 200 Park Avenue, NY – Met Life building, floor 52 (if I remember correctly) the views were outstanding.
It was definitely a “business attire” reception, with everyone wearing a suit, and only a couple of us “daring” not to wear a tie.
August 30th my wife and I acquired another work of art for our collection.
In this case we chose Colombian contemporary artist Carlos Motta: “Brief history of US Interventions in Latin America since 1946, 2005/14” (Guggenheim UBS MAP Purchase Fund 2014.39).
It is part of a series produced by Carlos Motta between 2005 and 2009 that present two chronologies of events in Latin America: one of U.S. interventions in the region since 1946, and one of the areas leftist guerrilla movements.
On August 24th we were invited to the graffiti show at 21 Precinct.
The show ironically took place in the old 21st police Precinct (327 East 22nd Street) which, from 1863 and for 50 years was notorious for corruption and brutality in a [formerly]seedy part of town.
Curated by Robert Aloia & VNA Mag, it featured Adam Dare, Al Diaz, Amanda Marie, ASVP, Bad Pedestrian, Ben Angotti , Bill Claps, Bishop203, Bunny M.
