During my flight to Boston I read “Regenesis”, the interesting genomic science book by Professor George Church, which was a gift from my friend Dr. Raminderpal Singh.
On Wednesday evening I had a very interesting conversation in Boston with both of them. Neither of them needs an introduction in the genomics world, but for those of you outside the field:
Raminder is Vice-president at Eagle Genomics and Advisor at Kanteron Systems.
I have spent the last two days in Boston for work. I know the city from my time as an MIT and Harvard student, and previous business trips. But unfortunately, the schedule was so tight, that this time I did not have a minute to enjoy Boston’s museums or other attractions. But that does not mean that I did not enjoy it.
I stayed at the great Park Plaza Hotel, where they gave me a VIP treatment thanks to my wonderful travel agent @Cruise_Curator
June 28 and 29 I attended, along with my friend John Memarian, President & CCO of my company Kanteron Systems, the Festival of Genomics Boston, as a Microsoft Genomics Group partner.
Although the show was small, it was a great opportunity to network with industry and academic experts (from Harvard Professors to Illumina executives) and learn.
From scientific posters to the latest sequencing technologies, from robotic arms to genomics experiments in space, it was great #geekfun.
Last week I was interviewed (as art curator) by the Meural team.
Each installment of their Deep Cuts series features a writer, artist, or curator discussing an underrated artist, artwork, movement, or museum.
In Episode 7: “Seriously playful” we discussed the work of one of my favorite artists: Claudio Zirotti.
Check it out!

Thursday June 23 I was given the opportunity to create a non-comissioned art piece at the Tate Gallery new extension Switch House.
Within Meschac Gaba (1961, Benin) “Architecture Room” installation part of the “Museum of Contemporary African Art” exhibit, the artist invitation was to build my own imaginary museum… and what better place to do that than in the recently inaugurated Switch House extension of the Tate Gallery by Herzog & de Meuron?
While narrowly avoiding the fire alarm evacuation that happened a couple of hours before we got there, what we could not avoid was the crowds. In any case, it is always a pleasure to see an expansion to an already amazing gallery.
On Tuesday June 21 I was invited to attend the Health Tech Innovators event that took place in London City Hall, organized by Digital Health London, MedCity, and Tech London Advocates.
It consisted of three panels (NHS, Innovators, and Corporate) and an open-bar networking.
Besides some interesting presentations, the main point as always was to network with old colleagues (like Sara – CEO of MedCity, Kay – Health Chair Tech London Advocates, Nooman – Silicon Valley Bank, or Hak – Advisor) and new ones (Brian – Partner PWC Health Advisory, Dough – Medical Director Aviva, John – Healthcare Konica Minolta, Marco – Health Solutions Janssen, Ifan – Healthcare Welsh Government, Martin – NIHR, Axel – ICL, and many more).
