Two weeks in Bangkok with Alvaro and Thomas
August 11-24 I was in Bangkok with my friends Alvaro and Thomas.
We went for work, and it was quite a productive trip. But we also had fun.
The trip was via Zurich. I spent a long layover at the Swiss Senator Lounge A (VERY nice lounge with showers, working desks, quiet zone with lounge chairs, good food…), and we stayed at our dear akyra Thonglor, with its nice pool and the awesome breakfast at Som Tam & Chardonnay restaurant (always made better by Koi’s smile and diligent service).
Some of the places we visited:
- Din Tai Fung: 21 folds (at least) xiaolongbao. NYT'93 one of the top ten restaurants in the world. Michelin Star'09 Hk branch
- Kub Kao Kub Pla
- Kitaro Sushi
- Funky Lam: Laotian cuisine, not worth it, but OK
- 旬魚菜肉肴酒 L’ecrin 55
- MBK and its amazing food court
- Hoy Tord Chao Lay: where I had OR-ROR for dinner :-)
- Chatuchak Park and (huge!) Weekend Market
- Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC): with some very nice, and free, art exhibits
- Im Chan
- BJC, Pearl Bangkok Building, and AIA Capital Center: business meetings
- Soi38 Street food: really good options
- Somtum Der Thonglor: Michelin Guide Thai restaurant for dinner that I did not particularly enjoy
- ก๋วยเตี๋ยวไก่ หน้าBJC: Nice omelette-covered Pad Thai for business lunch break
- Sabaijai Thai Restaurant
- Ainu: Hokkaido Izakaya & Bar
- Don Don Donki
- Union Mall
The last day, I got into the airport so early, I had time to check and compare different lounges:
- Turkish: not bad but unimpressed
- Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge: very nice but…
- Blue Ribbon: the best (because of the local food options)
